Bwin
Pulling
for
Europe
to
Join
Online
Gambling
November
21,
2007
The
CEO
of
Bwin,
Norbert
Teufelberger,
is
claiming
that
he
believes
that
the
European
nations
such
as
France
could
be
looking
at
liberalizing
the
online
gambling
market
in
Europe.
He
says
that
it
is a
$4.4
billion
online
gambling
market,
and
he
really
thinks
that
it
is
going
to
open
up
before
next
spring.
Teufelberger
says
that
the
liberalization
of
the
online
gambling
industry
will
make
it
more
legal
and
thus
make
people
more
comfortable
with
the
premise.
He
said
that
he
thought
that
if
France
were
to
come
forward
with
some
kind
of
legal
basis
for
online
gambling
that
there
would
be a
“landslide”
of
other
countries
coming
forward
to
do
the
same
thing.
Teufelberger
said
that
it
would
completely
change
the
face
of
online
gambling
in
Europe.
Companies
such
as
Bwin,
an
Austrian
Internet
bookmaker,
would
then
be
able
to
infiltrate
those
countries
and
make
some
serious
money
off
of
the
legal
move.
Teufelberger
says
that
six
months
ago
no
one
thought
that
France
would
even
be
looking
in
that
direction,
but
now
that
they
are,
there
is
no
reason
to
think
that
it
would
not
be
completed
by
spring.
Bwin
is
involved
with
a
host
of
other
companies
that
are
looking
to
work
with
the
countries
to
bring
in
online
gambling,
but
at
the
same
time
allow
the
states
to
keep
their
lotteries
under
their
own
monopoly.
All
online
gambling
and
betting
would
be
allowed
to
happen
through
commercial
operators,
which
would
make
many
online
gambling
companies
very
happy.
Teufelberger
says
that
even
though
he
does
not
think
that
all
of
Europe
will
have
signed
the
same
deal,
he
thinks
that
the
options
will
be
greater
for
those
that
don’t
have
many
now.
He
says
that
there
will
be
much
greater
access
in
many
more
countries
than
there
is
now,
and
that
eventually
it
will
be
widespread.
