Online
Gambling
Can
Be
Addictive
November
2,
2008
A
recent
report
came
out
that
claimed
that
online
gambling
could
be
addictive
if
played
too
much.
This
seems
rather
basic
and
the
logic
could
really
be
applied
to
almost
anything.
Video
game
playing
can
be
addictive
if
played
too
much.
Popcorn
eating
could
become
addictive
if
eaten
too
much.
Driving
to
the
store
could
be
come
addictive
if
done
too
much.
The
idea
behind
a
revelation
like
this
is
that
anything
could
become
addictive
if
done
too
much.
To
base
a
theory
on
this
idea,
to
simply
make
it
look
like
online
gambling
was
making
people
addicted
to
gambling
is
simply
untrue
and
unfounded.
There
have
been
plenty
of
reports
lately
that
say
that
online
gambling
is
no
more
addictive
than
many
other
things
that
we
do.
They
say
that
if
you
have
an
addictive
personality,
then
you
are
going
to
become
addicted
to
online
gambling,
or
to
pretty
much
anything.
You
could
be a
drug
or
food
addict,
or a
number
of
other
things
instead
of
an
online
gambling
addict.
If
you
do
not
have
an
addictive
personality,
then
you
won’t
have
a
problem.
Plenty
of
people
play
at
online
gambling
every
day
and
are
not
addicted
to
it.
This
“theory”
that
says
that
you
can
become
addicted
does
not
take
into
account
all
of
those
players
that
enjoy
it
without
it
becoming
a
problem
for
them.
It
simply
implies
that
you
could
become
addicted
if
you
continue
playing
online
gambling.
A
theory
like
this
is
misleading
and
simply
serves
to
strengthen
the
anti
online
gambling
movement.
Chances
are
the
study
was
funded
by
them
as
well.
