President-elect Obama and Gambling

November 12, 2008

What does the electing of Barack Obama to the White House mean for online gambling? Possibly nothing. During the course of his campaign, Obama never came out for or against online gambling, even though many have chosen to interpret this silence as for it. It would seem that they are sympathetic to the cause, but whether or not he will dedicate any time to it remains to be seen.

Vice President-elect Joe Biden is more inclined to be pro online gambling than his boss is. He has openly come out for online gambling and his son was a lobbyist for Party Gaming, which is one of the largest online poker companies out there.

Rep. Barney Frank feels that an Obama administration is going to help the cause. He says that there would be better regulations in place, and the fact that online gambling is illegal would become a non issue. He says that with the Republicans so extremely anti online gambling, they cant help but go up from here. He says that they have made online gambling way too important, when it should just be regulated and allowed to proceed.

They say that with the current government worrying too much about how the residents of the country are spending their money, they have not had time to look at the real issues like the housing crisis. Instead, they have been focusing unnecessarily on keeping online gambling illegal when the majority of Americans want it legal.
