| GamblingPhD menu | President Elect for Online Gambling? November 9, 2008 With the unprecedented win of Barack Obama on Tuesday putting him in the position of highest office in the land the online gambling and poker industry started wondering where this left them. They knew that the Republicans were going to keep online gambling illegal, and they knew most Democrats were for making it legal, but no one really knows where Obama stands on it. Many think that since Vice President Elect Joe Biden has been sympathetic to the online gambling plight that it might turn in their favor, but it is not known for sure. Many of the views of the political blowhards and that ilk say that he will legalize and regulate online gambling for sure. But it isnt that cut and dry. There are undoubtedly bigger things for him to worry about than online gambling, but once he does turn his attention to it, most think he will regulate and legalize it. According to Merrill Lynch, they think that Obamas victory will undoubtedly end up in more open markets in the country. They think that it could ultimately pave the way for online gambling to be regulated instead of prohibited. With many Senators on board for online gambling, and having been working so hard to try and overturn it all this time, it should be a fairly simple process to complete. Even if they start legalizing online gambling and poker, it is a start. It is expected that once one is regulated, they will all fall into place. |
