| GamblingPhD menu | Religion, Porn and Online Gambling November 28, 2008 One would think that putting religion, porn and online gambling into the same category would be a recipe for failure. However, this is not necessarily the case. Or at least it wasnt for one Bible group who not only supported the religion aspect of it, but also supported porn and online gambling. Dr. Paul Irwin is the former President of the American Bible Society. He hired Richard J. Gordon to revamp their websites and take over their online marketing to see if he could improve on it for the group. However, in hiring Gordon, they hired someone who had ties to the porn and online gambling industries. You can only assume that the charity knew nothing about this until the story broke. One would have assumed that all Irwin knew of Gordon was what he learned while they were working at the American Humane Society. However, it seems that both Irwin and Gordon were not what they seemed to be. Irwin had been suspended following an investigation regarding the amount of money that had been paid to Gordon. He had allegedly paid him more than $5 million to his companies according to the Bible societys tax records from 2005-2007. The ABS has now brought in The Rev. Dr. R. Lamar Vest to take over as President and to figure out what exactly went on. Their spokesman Roy Lloyd said that the charity was completely in the dark about all of this, and that they were simply a victim. Lloyd also said that they would be doing an independent review of their financial status. |
