Ohio Will See Expansion After All
November 10, 2009
Ohio is expanding gambling options. For a state that fought for so many years to keep out gambling, it seems that now they can't wait to get it within their borders. Now they are expanding the types of gambling that they are offering within their state, literally ending a 20 year opposition to bringing it in. More than 53% of the voters to turn out on Election Day voting in favor of bringing in four new casinos to the state.
Penn National Gambling has gotten the rights to operate the Vegas style casino in both Cincinnati and Toledo. Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, has gotten permission to build casinos in Cleveland and Columbus. These two groups have gotten a foot in the door for gambling that many others wish they could have gotten.
Once the casinos are up and running it will have more than 20,000 slot machines for gamblers to pick from. The state is expecting to see literally hundreds of millions of dollars on a yearly basis from the slot machines. Residents within Ohio are excited by the money that they think will come in from these games and are already talking about how they might make the move to online gambling within their borders as well.
Indiana is aware that with Ohio adding slot machines they are now going to lose millions of dollars in revenue to residents that will now stay within their own state. The casinos are expected to bring in roughly 40,000 jobs to stay, which is great for a state that currently has a 10% unemployment rate. They are hoping that eventually they will be able to expand even further. But for those online gambling sites that are currently servicing Ohio residents, they are bound to see a drop in their profits as players turn to land-based casinos in their own backyards as opposed to continuing to play at the online gambling sites.
