Kentucky Looking into Legalizing Online Gambling

November
26, 2009

After all their talk about making online gambling illegal, and attempting to seize the domain names of more than a hundred online gambling sites – now Kentucky is wondering if perhaps they should legalize it within their state. Governor Steve Beshear took the online gambling sites to court and tried to take them over as he said that he needed to protect his citizens from them. Now it seems that he may have changed his mind.

Having been unsuccessful in seizing the online gambling domain names, now he is looking at Ohio and wondering how they might be able to follow suit. With Ohio approving a ballot that would allow more gambling within the state in the form of four new casinos, Kentucky thinks that perhaps they might want to look into video gambling too.

The state says that online gambling could be very good for them, and they have their legislators for it as well. They say that an expansion of gambling might be exactly what they need to bring in more money and fix the budget shortfall that they are dealing with. As the state’s racetracks have been having a hard time of it on their own, a gambling expansion might be exactly what they need.

Online gambling advocates say that since the tracks have been bringing in less money that this seems like this would be the perfect way for the state to bring in more money. They also say that this would be a good way to put the problems to rest that they have facing with all of their legal issues.
