$3.5 million has been raised
to so far in the battle to
legalize casinos in that
state. Almost $3.4 million
came from supporters of
gambling not state funding.
As the
campaign to legalize casinos
draws to an end, more money
will be dispensed to pay for
TV ads geared towards both
sides trying feverishly to
sway voters to either snub
gambling, or side with one
of the two planned
alternates on the Nov. 2
ballot.
And
voters for casinos have been
collecting more money to
prepare for an onslaught of
advertising.
There
are five different measures
on the ballot aimed towards gambling, four of which
are part of a packet put
there by initiative
petitions.
Amendment 3, the
Legislature's plan, if
passed, would permit two
casinos anywhere in the
state. Exact details of the
amendment are to be
worked out later.
Initiatives 417 through 420
would legalize two casinos
in the Omaha area, and an
additional 4,900 video poker
and slot machines at
assorted locations in the state.
The
initiative measures are
backed by the Keep the Money
in Nebraska coalition, which
includes Coast Casinos of
Las Vegas, Nebraska's horse
racing industry, keno
operators and local
communities.
