August gaming
win springs back
October 13
Nevada casinos came back
in August,
mostly due
to so many people
playing
slot machines. The
reported
amount casinos won
state-wide was $905.1
million, this raises the
winnings up over 11%
from August 2003.
The
state Gaming Control Board
reported yesterday that the
$905 million was definitely
a record win for the month
of August, beating the
$839.5 million reported two
years ago for that month.
In
July, the gross profits
coming from the gambling
facilities slumped by 1.5%
from the year before.
A
senior research
analyst for the board,
stated that
slot machine winnings
increased to $641.3 million
during August, accruing a
21.9% increase. The analyst
added that some
of the boost was due to the
timing of the month. The end
of July fell on a weekend
and the slot machines were
not voided until Monday in
August. Meaning,
part of the revenue from
July was officially
accredited for in the month
August.
G
ross revenue from table
games in August slumped 9.4% to
a reported $255 million. The
senior analyst stated that was due
in part to there being one
less weekend in August this
year as opposed to last
year. Typically, players
with larger bank rolls will
go to
Nevada to gamble at table
games on the weekend while
slot play is a more steady
day-to-day event.
Winnings,
or gross profits, are
tallied before casinos
deduct taxes and their business
expenses.
