Iowa
tribe OK's casino
expansion
October
13
In Iowa,
Meskwaki
tribal members crushingly
approved the expansion of their
casino.
A spokesperson for the
tribe announced that the
Meskwaki tribe is looking to
start construction on the
approved project by the end
of this year.
The Meskwaki t ribal
members voted an overwhelming
238 to 61 in favor of the
expansion project.
They want
the casino to continue to be one
of the best gaming facilities in
the state. They want the casino
to be one of the driving
economic forces of development
in central Iowa.
Back in February of this
year, tribal members
disclosed their plans for
the new project. According
to the plans, the tribe is
working to double the size
of the casino. Currently,
the casino and hotel complex
has 206 rooms and is located
on Hwy. 30, west of Tama,
Iowa.
Members of the
tribe say the
casino is in desperate need of
expansion simply because they
basically have to turn visitors
away when they often don't have
enough hotel rooms. If they
don't expand soon, they feel
they will deter visitors from
coming back.
