Iowa Tribe of Kansas

Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska
made public their plans to build a large
casino in south-central area of Kansas.
It is reported that the plan to
construct an off reservation casino
might draw many regulatory hurdles.
The
Chairman of the
tribe stated that the tribe has
begun to work out a deal with a
development group run by former
Wichita Mayor Bob Knight. Knight is the
tribe's selected representative for
the project. Neither could be reach
for immediate comments.
In its
announcement, the tribe said it
planned a large sized building in
the Sedgwick County area, but only
if it could get local, state and
federal approvals. At this time, no specific
location was mentioned.

obtained by a tribe after the year
1988 is not allowed to house gaming
unless it gets an allowance
from the U.S. Secretary of Interior.
After USI approval, it would have to
confer with the state and get
allowance from the Legislature.
The Iowa
Tribe's land covers
2,700 acres at the junction of the
Missouri and Nemaha Rivers in the
Northeast corner of the Kansas and
the Southeast corner of Nebraska.
Only three
casinos off of a reservation exist
in the country.
