On November 2 in the
state of Michigan,
voters
will get to determine
how much power they
should have over
gambling expansion
issues in that state.
Proposal 1, the measure on
the ballot, would
require most types of
gambling to be permitted by
voters all over the state
and in the city, township,
or areas affected by the
proposed gambling.
The
city of Detroit already has
three casinos, which were
previously permitted by
voters. These three casinos
plus 17 Indian casinos,
which are not subject matter
of the state jurisdiction,
would be off the hook from
the provision.
The
measure would be retroactive
back to Jan. 1 of this year.
The measure was added to the
ballot after horse racing
tracks pushed to add slot
machines and video gaming to
bring-in more players.
