raising big money
October 14
In Oklahoma, s upporters
of a state proposal to allow
casino-type gambling at
Oklahoma's horse racing
tracks have raised almost
eight times more than
opposition groups have.
According to filings with
the Oklahoma Ethics
Commission, s upporters
of the idea, namely the
group Oklahomans for
Education and Jobs, have
raised almost $2.5 million.
Opposition group Oklahomans
for Good Government, has
raised under $303,000.
The
actual proposal, State
Question 712, would sanction
the State Tribal Gaming Act.
The would-be act permits
American Indian casinos and
three additional
state-licensed racetracks to
bring-fourth new variations
of gambling machines.
Approximately
$1.5 million raised by the
supporting group Oklahomans
for Education and Jobs came
from Indian tribes, most of
the additional funds came
from various gaming
companies, the Remington
Park racetrack in Oklahoma
City and even a few horse
clubs.
Oklahomans for Education
and Jobs
has spent over $1 million on
advertising to get their
point across, they have
filmed TV commercials, and
they have leased billboards.
