iMEGA
Statement
Issued
October
12,
2007
iMEGA
has
been
trying
to
get
the
Unlawful
Internet
Gambling
Enforcement
Act
(UIGEA)
declared
unconstitutional
or
otherwise
rendered
unenforceable.
On
Wednesday,
the
trial
in
New
Jersey
heard
oral
arguments
from
both
parties
involved
in
the
lawsuit,
and
afterwards
iMEGA
issued
a
statement
to
the
online
gambling
community.
They
said
that
they
are
waiting
for
the
action
of
the
Honorable
Mary
L.
Cooper
and
the
Court
based
on
the
decision
of
the
court
earlier
in
the
day.
They
said
that
they
don’t
have
any
problems
with
attempting
to
shield
children
and
problem
gamblers
from
the
temptations
of
online
gambling,
but
they
do
not
feel
that
the
UIGEA
is
the
law
to
do
that.
They
feel
that
the
law
is
defective
as
well
as
unconstitutional,
and
that
it
will
only
make
those
groups
that
they
are
trying
to
defend
more
vulnerable
to
the
dangers
of
online
gambling.
They
said
that
the
regulations
would
not
protect
them
and
would
only
serve
to
“stifle
online
innovation
and
commerce.”
They
went
on
to
say
that
this
does
not
even
include
the
fact
that
the
rights
of
the
individuals
are
being
supplanted
by
the
law,
as
you
have
the
right
to
do
what
you
want
in
your
own
home.
They
also
said
that
there
would
be a
significant
loss
in
the
number
of
jobs
as
well,
and
with
our
economy
being
what
it
is
today
we
cannot
afford
for
that
to
happen.
Judge
Cooper
listened
to
the
arguments
as
they
were
in
front
of
her,
and
says
that
she
will
provide
a
verdict
within
the
next
thirty
days.
