| GamblingPhD menu | Big Bucks in Online Gambling October 6, 2008 It may be the topic of heated conversation these days, but there is no denying the popularity of online gambling. The online gambling industry generated over $9 billion in revenue last year, and enticed more than 22 million players worldwide to participate in it. According to a recent survey, online gambling is just as popular as ever. In the UK just under 12% of men and 6% of women gamble, but once you get to the 25-34 age bracket, that number jumps to 14%. In the US, it is estimated that those numbers are much higher. Some online gambling sites are bringing in more than $35 per player per month, with the lower economic areas still bringing in an average of $10 a month. Across the world, 7% of the online population is participating in online gambling, with some countries having higher participation than others. Experts say that they expect these numbers to continue to climb, no matter what is going on financially in the world at the moment. Online gambling is illegal in China and hard to participate in in the United States. However, this does not stop people from gambling. In some cases it seems that the stricter the regulations are, the more online gambling you have because people feel that it is safer to participate. Despite whatever is going on however, it is still a very crowded market. Back to October 08 Archive. |
