| GamblingPhD menu | Some Online Gambling Sites Blocked October 13, 2008 As a result of the crusade by Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, gamblers in Kentucky are going to have a hard time accessing some of their favorite sites. This is making many people very angry and upset with their supposed online gambling loving governor. The legal fight that the governor is running is causing them not to be able to access some online gambling sites, because they are residents. Beshear says that his goal is not to block online gambling for the rest of the country, just in Kentucky. Many see it simply as an attempt to monopolize gambling for their horse tracks, and not to necessarily protect their residents from the dangers of online gambling. They say that if Beshear was that concerned about residents becoming addicted he would get rid of all gambling in the state. Some online gambling sites have already started blocking residents access to their sites. A week after officials filed a lawsuit against them; they started keeping Kentucky residents from accessing their online casinos. Settlement negotiations are under way to see if states can block their residents from accessing the online gambling sites. The online casinos have already entered into talks with the governor and it is unknown how they will turn out at this time. Back to October 08 Archive. |
