| GamblingPhD menu | The Draw of Online Gambling October 12, 2008 Some people say that they just dont get the appeal of online gambling. They say that it is nothing like a land based casino, so why would anyone want to play. They argue that you are aware the whole time that you are in your own living room or wherever, so what is the point? However, those who enjoy online gambling know that it is about convenience. They know that if they are sitting there on a Wednesday night with nothing to do that they can go, in their pajamas if they want, to their computer and play games at their favorite online casino. If they wanted to play and there was no online gambling, they would have to get in their car and go to a casino or if they dont live near one they would have to get in a plane or a train to get to one. This just isnt possible for many people on a standard Wednesday night. Perhaps they like to try other online casinos instead. If they wanted to do that with a land based casino they would have to leave the casino to walk down the street to another one. It just isnt convenient. Are there addicts who will abuse online gambling? Yes. Are there those that will abuse land based casinos? Yes. You cant stop gambling addiction by eliminating online casinos anymore than you can tell Las Vegas to close down because someone might become addicted. People enjoy gambling, and the convenience of online gambling coming into their homes makes it even more convenient. As long as there is gambling, there will be online gambling.
