Kahnawake Speaks

October 15, 2008

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission, or KGC, has spoken regarding the Kentucky case against online gambling. In case you missed it, the Kentucky case involves the online gambling industry giving up their gaming domains to the state of Kentucky so that they can create a monopoly within the state.

Governor Beshear, who ran on a pro gambling platform, is trying to get control of 141 domains and keep all gambling limited to within the state. However, it seems that the KGC has finally spoken on the subject and iGamingBusiness has the letter.

The letter said: We are compelled to draw to your attention that your actions will also adversely affect the members of our community and that is not acceptable. The statement added, Its not the first time that a government has tried to prevent us from conducting business and it wont be the last. But, rest assured, we will always protect our jurisdiction and the integrity of the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.

Some of the biggest names in online poker and online gambling would be forfeited to the government. Names like UltimateBet.com, PokerStars.com, AbsolutePoker.com, even BodogLife.com would now be owned by the state of Kentucky.

The judge is expected to come back with some kind of ruling on October 15th, so all we can do is wait and see what he says. It seems impossible that someone would rule that the internet could be subjected in that way, but one never knows with government anymore.
