| GamblingPhD menu | A Win for Obama is a Win for Online Gambling October 28, 2008 Many political pundits are calling the presidential race too close to call, with many still undecided as to where to put their vote. However, several online gambling sites are pushing for people to vote for Barack Obama because they say that he will legalize online gambling. However, is this really the case? For starters there is so much going on with our economy right now that overturning the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is probably not at the top of his list of stuff that has to get done right away. If he is going to eliminate the UIGEA it is gong to take some time. Obama is a poker player and admits to fully enjoying gambling. However, he has not said that he would absolutely overturn it. He has said that he is willing to look at it and see what it entails and what sort of effect it could have on US citizens. McCain on the other hand is part of a party that has been very clear that online gambling is to remain illegal and voted for the UIGEA. He is a poker player as well though, but that does not relate to online gambling as far as he is concerned. Sarah Palin has been very clear that she is opposed to online gambling, so poker players arent getting any assistance there. Joe Biden however, has come out strong for online gambling. He voted against the Internet Gambling Amendment and has publicly supported online gambling for years. Basically what it comes down to is that many think an Obama presidency will get them legalized online gambling and that may very well be the case. However, a McCain presidency would definitely not bring legalized online gambling unless within the next few days he comes out in support of it. Somehow we dont see that happening.
