| GamblingPhD menu | What About the Third Parties? October 30, 2008 There has been a lot of talk about Barack Obama and John McCain and where they stand on online gambling but what about the other candidates that are also running for president? How do they feel about online gambling? Are any of them for or against it? We have a tendency to concentrate on the two major parties, and many say that if you vote for anyone but them you are throwing away your vote. However, if everyone felt that way there would be no need for the third parties, and there obviously is. The Libertarian Party is the most in favor of online gambling, and if they are elected it will surely be legal again. Bob Barr and Wayne Root, both former Republicans, are running on the Libertarian ticket and they will make online gambling legal. The Constitution Party is dead set against online gambling. They say that it promotes increased crime and destroys families. They feel that any government inclusion in online gambling is a mistake, and they would like a repeal of federal legislation that would make it possible. The Independent American Party is for online gambling, but says it is up to individual states to do whatever they want with it. They have been endorsed by Ron Paul, who is very pro online gambling, so they have to have something good going for them. The Green Party does not discuss online gambling at all but are affiliated with anti online gambling groups. They also worked to have a new online gambling site shut down because it interfered with racing. The American Independent Party does not discuss online gambling either. However, they are against abortion, immigration and gay marriages, so many feel that they are probably against online gambling too. The Peace and Freedom party doesnt discuss it either. |
