Online
Gambling
War
October
9,
2008
Kentucky
has
gotten
itself
into
the
midst
of
the
online
gambling
war
whether
they
wanted
to
be
there
or
not.
Governor
Beshear
has
decided
that
it
would
be
appropriate
for
the
states
of
Kentucky
to
take
control
of
the
online
gambling
site
names
of
the
internet
casinos
that
they
have
decided
are
illegal.
Last
month,
the
state
seized
141
online
gambling
names
stating
that
they
were
illegal.
They
were
trying
to
force
the
forfeiture
of
the
domain
names
so
that
they
could
shut
down
what
they
saw
as
illegal,
unregulated
online
gambling.
The
offshore
online
gambling
sites
are
heading
back
to
court
to
fight
Kentucky
on
the
seizure,
and
as
of
right
now
the
court
has
given
them
a
continuance
in
the
fight.
But
many
are
angry
with
the
state
in
what
they
see
as
an
illegal
seizure.
The
state
said
that
the
online
gambling
sites
were
preying
on
their
state’s
citizens,
and
that
they
needed
to
be
shut
down.
The
online
gambling
sites
say
that
this
is
censorship
at
its
very
core.
In
addition
to
the
online
gambling
industry,
free
speech
advocates
are
in
agreement
that
this
is
not
the
step
that
needs
to
be
taken
in
the
online
casino
industry.
They
are
concerned
that
by
regulating
online
gambling
in a
way
that
gives
the
state’s
the
right
to
determine
what
is
on
online
casinos,
they
are
giving
them
the
right
to
determine
what
is
on
the
internet
at
all.
