Domain Case Comes Back to Court

October
28, 2009

For those that have been wondering what was up with Kentucky these days you don’t have to wonder any more. Their domain case has come back up for review in the courts, and it is anybody’s guess what the outcome of it will be.

Kentucky came into the news a few months ago when they tried to seize the domain names of hundreds of online gambling sites. Initially it was ruled and considered that if an online gambling site was operating on the internet then there was no jurisdiction from the home state. When Kentucky first took it to court the State’s Supreme Court said that they did not have the right to seize them and released the names back to the online gambling sites.

But the governor is giving mixed signals to those within the state itself. First he says that he is bound and determined to keep online gambling illegal, and then allows the race tracks to offer it instead. This is a complete contradiction in terms for those involved in the industry as they don’t know what the governor wants. It would appear that he is simply trying to keep gambling monies within the state and create his own monopoly.

The online gambling sites are confused as they realize that the governor doesn’t really know what he wants. They say that last time he didn’t even name who was going to court, they simply served the sites and told people they had to come to the courts to identify and defend themselves.
