France is Ready to Gamble

October
26, 2009

Many residents of Europe had been waiting for France to allow online gambling across their borders. They have been working on changing their regulations and restrictions for online gambling for quite a long time now, and now it seems that they are getting even closer to this becoming a reality. On October 12 of this year the French National Assembly voted in favor of a bill that would allow private online gambling companies to compete within the country.

However the bill did not pass easily. When the vote was taken, 302 assembly members voted to allow the online gambling bill to be passed while 206 of them were against the changes. The majority of the support came from only two political parties as most of them went the other direction. Unfortunately the bill now has to go towards their Senate who has not yet debated the idea of allowing this online gambling regulation.

Those within the online gambling industry say that the new rules are not even something they want to see. They say that the rules are 'wholly unattractive and in most cases completely unviable." The Remote Gambling Association said that private online gambling companies would not benefit from the changes, and that the taxes would be too high for most of them.

However, for just as many that seem to have a problem with the online gambling bill, there are many more that are hopeful and looking to embrace the idea. There are those online gambling companies that are already trying to get into the market before the bill even passes and the government has already had to warn them about it.
