Germany’s Online Gambling Ban
October 26, 2009
Germany allows online gambling within their country. They just do not want other countries accessing their residents as they say it is dangerous for them to do so. Instead they have created an online gambling monopoly within their country, and are fighting against the European Union's attempts to get them to open their borders. They are determined that all my gambling will stay within their country.
The country's online gambling ban is now under siege from another source, the Christian Democratic Party and the Liberal Party, both of which are located in Schlewswig-Holdten. They have teamed up to call for an end to the German interstate Treaty on gambling and instead are calling for regulation.
They say that they would like to see an intrastate licensing system for online gambling because they say that the country's arguments of protecting its residents by continuing the monopoly are simply untrue. The country has long maintained that by keeping online gambling within their borders they can protect their residents and keep problem gambling from becoming an issue.
The European Gaming and Betting Association has long maintained that the monopoly that Germany has on online gambling simply is for fiscal reasons and nothing else. They need all German states to ratify these new regulations for all online gambling by the first of January 2012 because if they don't the current state gambling monopoly would be unenforceable. They say that they need the various areas within Germany to come together to create a more fair way of handling online gambling, and to open up their country to some competition – thus ensuring a better online gambling experience for everyone.
