Poker Players and Horses Working Together
October 27, 2009
What is interesting about the gambling world is that each entity with in the arena is really out for itself. For example look at the case of New Jersey. The casinos they are refusing to allow the horse tracks within the state to bring in slot machines or any other form of gambling device. Any time that the horse tracks talk about possibly offering some form of modifying online gambling or even bringing in bingo machines before you know it the casinos get into an uproar as they know it will affect the amount of revenue that they bring in.
Online gambling sites and horse racing sites do not traditionally get along well. Each one is afraid that the other is taking their business so they work hard to get the other one from succeeding. However this is all changed with the recent letter that was written by the Poker Players Alliance in conjunction with the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and the American Greyhound Track Operators Association. The letter is asking for the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act's regulations to be delayed by one year.
It is in all of their best interests for online gambling to be legalized as they all stand to make a significant amount of money from it. This letter shows that the various entities within the online gambling arena are coming together for a common goal, their pocketbooks. Once the UIGEA's regulations are put into place it further solidifies the idea that online gambling is illegal within the United States.
They have good company for the financial institutions and banks feel that they will be most affected by the implementation of the online gambling rules so they are in support of the postponement of them as well.
