Operations Considering Tasmania

October
12, 2009

Online gambling companies are looking for a new place to go. It seems that everywhere they go they are faced with high taxes and surcharges to offer their services within a particular country. But not every country is looking to take advantage of the online gambling operators.

Tasmania has recently announced that they are looking for online gambling operations from around the world to come into their home. They had decided to drop the tax that they were charging on their bookmaking operations which means many of the biggest online gambling operators in the world will find this very enticing.

Tasmania is only going to charge a fee of $250,000 for licensing within their country. This is in lieu of any taxes that they would be charging them instead. Obviously there are mixed reviews as to what this means for the online gambling industry. Online gambling operators are thrilled at the prospect of paying so little to offer their services, but the rest of the world is concerned because they are now undercutting every other country.

For the rest of Australia, it does not bode well because Tasmania has just set themselves up as their favorite as Australia charges a much higher price to be registered in their country. Sydney is the location of many of the biggest online gambling sites out there today, but this may quickly change as operators realize that they can get a better deal somewhere else. This of course will mean financial hardship for Australia, as many of these online gambling companies relocate to Tasmania taking their jobs with them.
