UIGEA Deadline is Approaching

October
12, 2009

The online gambling community is bracing itself for the date of December 1. It is this day that’s the implementation of the regulations for the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA go into effect. The online gambling community was hoping that this day would never come, but they are not alone. Banks and financial institutions have also feared this day as they feel that they are being made responsible for policing the UIGEA which they don’t think is their place.

They argue that the laws that are aimed at keeping online gambling illegal are vague and confusing. They have been supporting Rep. Barney Frank in his attempts to postpone that implementation for another year. They say that during this time if the UIGEA were not completely overturned, it would at least give them time to rewrite the regulations making them a more user friendly.

The Poker Players Alliance is working overtime to keep the act from being implemented. They understand the impact that this will have on both poker playing and online gambling. They continue to push forward the idea that by legalizing online gambling they are opening up our country to a whole wealth of revenue that could be used to rebuild our economy.

They say that they were hoping to get more support from the Obama Administration on getting online gambling passed, but because they are working so hard to get health care for everyone, online gambling seems to have been pushed to a back burner. Their worry is that online gambling’s deadline is quickly approaching.
