FullTilt Beats Bot

September 24, 2007

In order to understand what happened, you have to understand what a bot is. A bot is a type of malware that players use to gain control over another system. This process allows them to compete against novice online gamblers as they do not understand the online gambling world just yet.

This time they chose FulTiltPoker to attack, and went into their Texas Hold’em Limit cash games. However, FullTiltPoker was ready for them, and has frozen the accounts of those that are allegedly using the bots to play – and have seized the money in those accounts. This is quite a feat as bots are notoriously hard to find, and once they are found it is even harder to trace them to the source.

Those that have fallen prey to the bots at their online casino have received a letter from the security department telling them that they are victims and that they will be getting refunds. Rumor has it that thousands of online gamblers were affected by the bots. Those suspected in partaking in the use of bots are Japinthesack and BeatMe1, although they have not been confirmed.

Other online gambling sites have been affected by them as well, so there will be some crosschecking of accounts done by the other sites that those that stand accused may have accessed. It is believed that many other online gambling sites will have been affected.

The thing with bots is that they are aggressive and will play even if there is the slightest advantage to playing, and will raise cards no matter what the odds. This will cause many players to fold, and thus the owner of the bot takes their money.
