UK’s
Loss
is
Malta’s
Gain
September
15,
2007
Malta
is
celebrating
the
UK
Gambling
Act
and
thinks
that
it
is
the
best
thing
that
could
have
happened
to
online
gambling
in
the
UK.
They
were
concerned
when
the
Act
was
looking
to
be
passed
while
Tony
Blair
was
still
in
office,
as
it
could
have
potentially
have
hurt
their
revenue
source.
However,
since
Gordon
Brown
has
taken
office,
all
fears
have
been
put
to
rest.
See,
Gordon
Brown
hates
online
gambling
– he
is
completely
against
it.
So
he
got
the
bright
idea
to
tax
the
online
casinos
15%
of
their
revenue
to
be
licensed
in
the
UK.
However,
what
he
wasn’t
planning
on
was
the
number
of
online
gambling
sites
that
figured
they
would
just
stay
in
Malta
where
they
weren’t
being
charged
that
kind
of
money.
Online
casinos
and
gambling
sites
are
now
flooding
Malta
with
applications
to
be
registered
in
their
country,
as
they
see
that
they
are
running
out
of
areas
that
are
friendly
to
them
without
charging
them
an
arm
and
a
leg.
Many
feel
that
Malta
could
easily
become
to
online
gambling
what
Macau
has
become
to
casinos.
Big
name
casinos
like
William
Hill,
Intercasino,
Playboy
and
Virgin
Islands
are
all
clamoring
to
be a
part
of
Malta,
and
want
to
relocate
their
online
casinos
and
gambling
sites
to
the
tiny
country.
Those
online
companies
that
do
not
get
accepted
by
Malta
will
search
for
other
options,
but
Malta
is
definitely
hot
property
today.
