Malta
New
Hangout
For
Online
Casinos
September
10,
2007
It
is
good
that
someone
benefited
from
the
passing
of
the
UK
Gambling
Act
on
September
1st,
as
Malta
continues
to
reel
them
in.
The
little
island
is
watching
them
come
in
droves
to
their
little
haven,
and
they
aren’t
turning
anyone
away.
Upon
the
announcement
from
the
UK
government
changing
the
Act
and
the
way
that
online
gambling
is
handled
in
their
country,
many
online
casinos
felt
the
need
to
relocate.
Many
of
them
headed
over
to
Malta
long
before
the
Act
actually
came
into
effect
so
as
to
basically
beat
the
ban.
The
act
only
permits
online
gambling
companies
in
EEA
and
approved
“white
list”
areas
such
as
Alderney
to
advertise
on
United
Kingdom
TV,
radio,
or
any
other
form
of
media.
Any
online
gambling
company
that
wants
to
advertise
basically
had
to
leave
the
country.
Malta
now
has
84
different
iGaming
firms
with
licenses
on
the
island,
and
76
others
have
received
letters
of
intent.
They
also
have
36
other
online
gambling
companies
that
are
waiting
to
see
how
they
fared
on
their
license
applications.
More
than
27
international
online
gambling
companies
are
in
the
process
of
moving
their
operations
to
Malta.
Big
names
like
Playboy
Casino,
Virgin
Games,
William
Hill
and
Intercasino
are
all
gearing
up
to
move
to
Malta.
Experts
say
that
they
are
the
“natural
hub”
of
online
gambling
now.
