| GamblingPhD menu | CitizenLink votes for Confusion September 29, 2008 The group CitizenLink.com is a contradiction of their own terms. They obviously want to stop illegal online gambling, yet voted against a bill that would do that. Why? Perhaps they dont understand what they are fighting for. In 2006, Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, which made the online payment processing of online gambling funds illegal. However, it never clarified many of the important parts of the bill, and led to a lot of confusion for many people. Rep. Barney Frank has been working for two years now to get a clarification of the UIGEA, which would make it clear to banks and financial institutions which online gambling is legal, and which isnt. He is calling for regulation of the industry, which would help those that are currently trying to figure out what they can and cannot do online. However, CitizenLink.com is calling out for Americans to vote against the online gambling related bill which makes no sense at all. They are looking at the bill and saying that it legalizes online gambling which it does not do. It simply calls for a clarification of the issue. It would seem that the family group is as confused about the bill as those who initially wrote the UIGEA. |
