Declining Credit and Debt Charges

September 15, 2008

Before the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA, roughly 100% of the credit and debit card charges went through. People had no problem depositing money into their online gambling accounts, nor did they have any problems getting their money from them. However, that has now changed.

Now the government is trying to hold the banks responsible for enforcing the UIGEA and keeping all payment processing to online gambling establishments out of our country. They are to block all of the payments to and from online gambling sites.

The problem is that the banks say that it is too hard to know what a valid charge is and what an online gambling charge is. They have been blocking anything that seems like it might be, and are ending up blocking things that arent.

This leaves those in the US who want to participate in online gambling left out in the cold. They are having a hard time getting money to their accounts, and many online casinos dont even take US customers any more because of it.

Some online gambling sites are turning to e-wallets which act as a middle man between the online casino and your bank. It seems like a valid charge so the bank processes it and you get your money fast. Be sure however, that the site that you are playing on is reputable before you give them your bank account information.
