| GamblingPhD menu | Criminals Looking For Excuses September 13, 2008 It seems that someone commits a crime these days and they look for someone or something to blame it on. It is their mothers fault, it is their spouses fault, or it is societys fault. However, they very rarely seem to take responsibility for their own actions which drove them to do whatever it is they have been found guilty of. Lately, online gambling seems to have become that scapegoat for many people. They are robbing or stealing and playing online with the money that they are accused of stealing and it is online gamblings fault for making them do it. However, there are millions of people out there who participate in online gambling that arent breaking any rules or laws in the process. These people arent putting anyone at harm by playing at online gambling, and hence are taking responsibility for their actions. The latest perpetrator of this scam is Richard Kellett. In case you havent heard of this one, he is a Euxton teenager who used online gambling as his excuse for committing two burglaries. He asked that the court give him a break on his sentencing as it wasnt his fault. Now, lets think about the fact that Kellett broke the law by participating in online gambling in the first place. Kellett shouldnt have even been on the site, so the fact that he became addicted if he really is is only his fault. Instead of copping to the crime, he looked for an excuse and saw online gambling and used it. It shouldnt be legal to use online gambling as an excuse any longer, especially since in most cases it isnt even real. Back to September 2008 Archive. |
