| GamblingPhD menu | Flip Flop Governor September 27, 2008 The Governor of Kentucky is a Class A flip flopper according to many online gambling enthusiasts in the state. Governor Steve Beshear is trying to keep them from accessing online casinos and he is winning. Officials have filed lawsuit against the online casinos in Kentucky, stating that they dont want to shut down the sites across the world, but want to stop their residents from having access to them. Now the online gambling sites are blocking access to the states residents. One of the worlds biggest online casinos is GoldenCasino.com who has started blocking their players as well. They sent their account holders emails stating that they would no longer accept play from residents of Kentucky. The legality of all of this is unsure at the moment, as many dont know if states have the right to block their residents access to the online gambling sites. But the worst part is that their governor was elected because he was pro gambling. He based his election campaign last year on his promise to open casinos in Kentucky. However, he doesnt want the competition from the online gambling sites to interfere with the land based ones that he is planning on putting in. He asked a judge to cut off access to their residents and to give them control of the domain names. He also wants them to pay financial damages for lost revenue. Online Gambling enthusiasts say that they worked hard to get Beshear in office because he was pro gambling. Now they will work just as hard to get him out of office. Back to September 2008 Archive. |
