| GamblingPhD menu | Holland Considering Online Gambling Tax September 14, 2008 There are many countries in Europe who are in trouble for having an online gambling monopoly within their country. However, Holland has done away with their monopolies, but they are still finding ways of bringing in more money. The country has decided that they are going to start taxing online gambling. Holland made the decision to remove the monopoly with a bill that that endorses online gambling and the bill was passed by their Senate. The Senate also approved a tax that would heavily tax the online gambling operators. However, there is a catch for their citizens as well. For those citizens that choose to play at online gambling sites that are outside of Holland, they will be taxed on their winnings. So although they are allowing them to play at online gambling sites outside of their country, they will be penalized for doing so. The European Union probably felt rather foolish for celebrating Hollands opening of their doors to outside online gambling companies, especially since most people will assuredly stick to those within the country. The Dutch government wants to keep online gambling within their walls and keep out those sites that they want to. There are two specific online gambling companies that they want to keep out Unibet and Oranje Casino. They have asked their financial companies to not provide financial services to the companies as they dont want their residents playing at their sites. Back to September 2008 Archive. |
