| GamblingPhD menu | McCain May Be Linked to Online Gambling September 29, 2008 It would seem that there are recent reports stating that John McCain actually has ties to online gambling through his team. The New York Times is reporting that McCain has ties to the land based casino sector and not in a good way. McCain has reportedly enjoyed a life long love of gambling, however, there are many who can allegedly attest to McCain playing at a casino that he oversaw as a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. Not only that, but he was gambling with the lobbyist that represents that casino. The casino in question is Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut one of the largest casinos in the world. Supposedly the lobbyist, Scott Reed, arranged the visit that particular evening in 2002. Not only had that but the owners of the casino, the Mashantucket Pequot, given large sums of money to McCains bid to be president. Rick Davis, McCains current campaign manager was with them as well according to the reports. The problem wasnt that McCain had chosen to play at the casino; it was that he is so vehemently against online gambling, but here he is playing at it himself. For those members of the Republican Party who enjoy online gambling, it simply seems like a slap in the face. As a rule the tribes do not want to see online gambling legalized, so this would explain McCains stance. For as long as he has his hand in the tribes pocket, the online gambling industry does not stand a chance of legalization, unless Barack Obama wins the election. |
