Aussie Online Gambling

Probably one of the worst things an online gambling site can have happen to them is to be hacked. Once they have been hacked, the online gambling site not only loses credibility with their current players, but they also run the risk of losing money. Unfortunately, this is what has happened to at least four online gambling sites in Australia.

According to the federal authorities in Australia, four online gambling sites have been targeted by Distributed Denial of Service Attacks. What happens in these attacks is that the perpetrators sent several thousand transactions per second to the online gambling sites. This then causes the site shut down. Not only does this cause the online gambling site to lose thousands of dollars, possibly even millions, but it also affects all of the computers that are currently on the site.

In many cases the attacks are sent with a list of demands from the perpetrators. However as of yet these recent ones have not had any demands. According to the Herald Sun, the online gambling sites that were targeted were SportingBet Australia, SportsBet, Sports Alive, and BetChoice.

The hackers use their access to the online gambling site to gain control of all of the other computers that are currently on the network. They infect them with a virus, and then use those computers to send a flood of traffic to that site. However, without a list of demands, it is unknown whether or not this is a one time deal or if they can assume that they will be hacked again in the future.
