Let’s Not Make Things Harder
September 29, 2009
The online gambling community has to feel frustrated with a lack of support from their government. Many voted in Pres. Barack Obama because they thought that things would change as far as online gambling was considered. Instead it just seems to be more red tape with Republicans attacking anything that comes out of the White House just because it's not Republican run, and Democrats constantly attacking the Republicans for anything that they propose. The people of the United States are tired of political posturing. They want health care reform, they want government spending cuts, and they want online gambling.
The latest problem is of course the health care bill. Those that have insurance for the most part are not worried about those that don't. They are more worried about how this is going to affect their taxes than they are about people getting well. So Sen. Ron Wyden steps forward and proposes an amendment that would offset the cost of health care reform in the United States by regulating and legalizing online gambling.
This idea makes sense on some level because you have so many people who worry about how it could be funded, but it also serves to muck up the mess that health care reform is now. You have people who are for healthcare reform who are against online gambling, and vice versa. There are people who want online gambling, but do not want health care reform, and therefore will feel manipulated into giving something their approval when really there is no approval there.
These are two completely separate topics and should not be pushed together to serve a separate agenda. Instead of having a logical debate on either of these topics, it ends up being a heated debate about both and no one wants that.
