Union offers talks again in AC

October 12

In Atlantic City on Monday, casino and hotel workers involved in the current strike extended an offer to recommence negotiations in order to end a 10-day-old strike that has rendered thousands of workers, causing casinos to get by without them.

The president of Local 54 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union, asked the casinos' bargaining reps to meet with union representatives on  this Friday, Oct. 15.

The union is renting a meeting room to host the would-be resuming talks. There have not been any talks or negotiations since the Oct. 1 walkout staged by 10,000 bartenders, cocktail servers, housekeepers, food servers, many other service industry positions.

The bargaining group was formed last week by reps for Harrah's Entertainment, Caesars Entertainment, Resorts Atlantic City and the Tropicana Casino and Resort.

Before the group was formed, the Local 54  union was bargaining  with each casino company on an individual basis.

Spokespeople for Caesars Entertainment and Harrah's had no comment at this time regarding any new deals. ent.
